At MultiCaf, we see firsthand how families in Côte-des-Neiges face growing challenges. Food insecurity touches more and more families. In fact, according to Moisson Montreal's Bilan-Faim, over half of households receiving food aid in Montreal are families. This number has increased from 47.8% in 2023 to 54.5% in 2024.
Every year, MultiCaf supports an average of 16,000 members at our solidarity grocery store, and 30% of those are children.
Did you know that children under 16 can also enjoy a free hot meal every day at our community cafeteria?
With this growing need, we recognized that families required more than just food : they needed a safe, welcoming space tailored to their unique needs.
Why a Family Room?
The new Family Room is designed to be a warm, secure environment where children can play and eat comfortably while parents receive the support they need. This space helps reduce the stress and barriers families face when seeking help, offering dignity, comfort, and a sense of belonging.
The Impact We Hope to See
Our goal is to create a place where families feel safe and encouraged to access all the support MultiCaf offers. By providing this dedicated space, we hope to:
Increase the number of families who feel comfortable seeking help
Reduce the stress experienced by parents during visits
Strengthen community bonds in Côte-des-Neiges
A Special Thanks to Desjardins
We are excited to welcome families to the new Family Room starting Monday, June 2, alongside our extended service hours until 7 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Together, we’re making meaningful strides to support the families who rely on MultiCaf every day.
