It is with great pride that we announce that our Executive Director, Jean-Sébastien Patrice, was awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Honourable Rachel Bendayan, MP for Outremont and Minister of Official Languages and Associate Minister of Public Safety, in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the community, on February 21.
A Well- Deserved Distinction
This prestigious distinction, awarded by the Canadian Senate on the recommendation of the Minister, recognizes outstanding contributions to the community. Only one recipient is chosen per province and territory each year, and it's a well-deserved honor for Jean-Sébastien, who devotes his life to improving the living conditions of vulnerable residents of Côte-des-Neiges, one of Montreal's most food-insecure neighborhoods.
35 Years of Struggle for Food Security
The event also marked MultiCaf's 35th anniversary, an important milestone in our commitment to fighting food insecurity. Since its founding, MultiCaf has supported nearly half a million people through meals, food baskets and essential community services..
As one of the second most food-insecure boroughs in Montreal, Côte-des-Neiges represents a crucial work area for our organization. Every month, nearly 122,000 requests for emergency food aid are met in the CDN-NDG borough, according to Moisson Montréal's Hunger Count (2024).
A Lasting Impact in the Community
The ceremony was an important moment to mark Jean-Sébastien's 30 years of service in the community sector, where he has played a key role in transforming MultiCaf into a leading player in the fight against food insecurity. His vision and leadership have led to the creation of initiatives such as urban agriculture, which is helping to strengthen food self-sufficiency in our neighbourhood.
The Honourable Rachel Bendayan awarded the medal to Jean-Sébastien in the presence of employees, volunteers, partners and friends of the organization, making the moment even more special. We also took the opportunity to unveil our 35th anniversary commemorative logo, symbolizing our history and commitment to the community.
A Glance into the Future
At this historic moment, we look to the future with the hope of continuing to meet the growing needs of our community. We sincerely thank all those who have supported MultiCaf over the years and who continue to contribute to this vital cause.
